Moosehead Lake Region, Baxter State Park, Appalachian Trial culminating with Mount Katahdin, and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. This region of northern Maine is the premier destination for outdoor recreation.
Guests typically overnight in Greenville at one of several lodges, inns or motels and choose from several restaurants to dine. Some opt for a more traditional sporting camp setting such as West Branch Pond Camps where meals are included, or in cabins with kitchens, such as Wilson’s on Moosehead Lake, which is alongside the East Outlet of the Kennebec. Others pitch a tent at a campground such as Big Eddy Campground alongside the West Branch of the Penobscot River. An inn located outside Millinocket on the way to the Penobscot, Big Moose Inn, is another option.
Fly fishing, whitewater rafting and kayaking, moose-watching “safaris”, canoe trips, camping and scenic floatplane trips are major attractions.
Guests typically arrive by vehicle from Interstate 95 to either Greenville via the Newport exit.
